In my search around the topic of AAC I found this … a list of wishes from students who use augmentative and alternative communication. It made me think about my own responses and gave me a little more insight to these students feelings.
- I wish my teacher would joke with me.
- I wish my teacher would learn to work my communication aid.
- I wish my teacher would stop shouting at me like I can’t hear.
- I wish my teacher would have more patience with me.
- I wish my teacher would call on me for “share day”.
- I wish my teacher would give me enough time to say what I am thinking.
- I wish my teachers wouldn’t hit my machine when it doesn’t work – after all it is my mouth!
