Products and Equipment

Finding suitable AAC equipment, therapy resources and adapted products can be difficult and expensive—particularly when products must be imported or families are unsure which option will meet their needs.

The Speak 2 Me Shop brings together practical products selected with real users, families, carers, therapists and educators in mind. Our aim is to make useful communication and participation tools easier to understand, source and access locally.

What You Can Find in Our Shop

The available range will continue to grow and may include:

  • AAC communication boards and books
  • Printed communication resources
  • Switches and switch-accessible products
  • Adapted and switch-activated toys
  • Device holders, mounts and protective accessories
  • Tablet and technology accessories
  • Styluses and alternative-access tools
  • Sensory and therapy resources
  • Positioning and practical support products
  • Educational toys and activities
  • Books and resources developed or recommended by Sonja
  • Specialised apparel and everyday accessories
  • Locally manufactured Speak 2 Me products

Products are selected for their practical value rather than simply because they are marketed as specialist equipment.

AAC Resources

Communication support does not always need to begin with an expensive electronic device.

The shop may include printed boards, communication books, symbols, visual supports and other practical resources that can be used at home, school, therapy or in the community.

Some resources may be available as standard products, while others can be personalised according to the user’s vocabulary, interests, routines and communication requirements.

Adapted Toys and Access Products

Play provides important opportunities for learning, interaction, choice-making and independence.

Speak 2 Me supplies selected accessible toys and may adapt suitable toys for switch operation. Other access products, such as enlarged controls, handle extensions and practical device accessories, may also be available.

Because adapted products are often difficult or costly to import, Speak 2 Me will continue exploring locally manufactured and modified alternatives wherever practical.

Books and Learning Resources

Books, activity materials and educational resources created or recommended by Sonja will be available through the shop.

These may include resources for:

  • AAC users
  • Parents and families
  • Teachers and classroom assistants
  • Carers and support workers
  • Therapists
  • Schools and community organisations

Each product listing will explain who the resource is intended for and how it may be used.

Carefully Selected Everyday Products

Not every useful item needs to be labelled as specialised equipment.

Speak 2 Me may also stock carefully selected everyday products that can support therapy, communication, sensory regulation, positioning, play or participation. These could include therapy balls, accessible stationery, protective device accessories, selected toys and other practical items.

Where possible, products will be sourced locally to reduce costs, delivery delays and dependence on imported equipment.

Technology and Device Support

Selected tablets, communication-device accessories and other technology products may be offered directly or sourced on request.

Where applicable, Speak 2 Me may also assist with:

  • Selecting a suitable device or accessory
  • Installing communication software
  • Setting up an AAC application
  • Creating or loading communication boards
  • Customising vocabulary and layouts
  • Training the individual and their communication partners
  • Finding suitable protection, mounting or access options

Purchasing a device does not automatically include assessment, customisation or therapy unless this is specifically stated in the product or package description.

Product Sourcing

If you need a product that is not currently available in the shop, you are welcome to contact Speak 2 Me.

Sonja can help identify possible local or international options based on the intended user, required function, access needs and available budget.

Special-order products may require an upfront payment and may have longer delivery periods. Availability, estimated lead times and any import-related costs will be confirmed before an order is placed.

Choosing the Right Product

Every individual has different abilities, environments and communication needs. A product that works well for one person may not necessarily be appropriate for another.

General product information can help families compare options, but specialised equipment should ideally be selected as part of an assessment or professional consultation.

Where a product requires individual evaluation, setup or training, this will be clearly indicated. Customers may be encouraged to book an assessment before purchasing higher-cost or highly specialised equipment.

Custom and Personalised Products

Certain products can be personalised or made to order. These may include:

  • Communication boards
  • Communication books
  • Vocabulary layouts
  • Printed visual resources
  • Adapted toys
  • Handle or button extensions
  • Device setups
  • Custom access solutions

Custom products will be quoted according to the materials, development time and work required. Because they are made for a particular user, personalised products may not be eligible for return unless they are faulty or do not match the approved order.

Supporting Access and Participation

The Speak 2 Me Shop is more than a collection of products. It is an extension of our commitment to helping individuals communicate, play, learn and participate more independently.

By combining carefully selected products, local development, practical guidance and professional support, we aim to make AAC and accessible participation more achievable for South African individuals and families.
